SENSAI’s commitment to weaving a sustainable future
Rooted in the Japanese spirit of living in harmony with nature,SENSAI has embraced sustainability as an enduring value since its days as a silk spinning company.
With years of extensive research, we succeeded in transforming silkworm pupae oil, a once discarded material, into a precious skincare ingredient. This led to the birth of our first luxury soap,SAVON DE SOIE – the beginning to weaving threads of sustainability.
SENSAI carries this legacy forward with a vision of a prosperous and thriving future.

Fostering a Harmonious Connection with Nature
To be in harmony with nature, means cultivating a balanced relationship with the natural world based on reverence and reciprocity. We protect and cherish nature's extraordinary gifts, and apply this approach to our creative process. Drawing on the sensibility of Japanese aesthetics, we strive to cultivate a harmonious relationship with nature, to weave a path towards a thriving future.
Aya Town in Miyazaki Prefecture is home to one of Japan’s largest primeval evergreen forests, a rare and precious ecosystem that nurtures one of SENSAI’s key ingredients. SENSAI is proud to participate in the Aya Lucidophyllous Forest Project, a UNESCO Eco Park initiative dedicated to protecting this unique forest along the Ayagawa River. The project also focuses on restoring nearby secondary and planted forests back to their original evergreen state. By supporting the conservation and restoration of these forests, SENSAI contributes to preserving its biodiversity and promoting a sustainable natural environment for the future.
We support the restoration and environmental management of the biotope in Aya Town, which contributes to the protection of endangered plants, fish and shellfish, as well as the preservation of their natural habitats. This initiative provides local children with opportunities to connect with nature, fosters an environment where humanity and nature coexist harmoniously and works towards a future of shared prosperity.
At SENSAI, we incorporate FSC®1 certified paper in packaging, sourced from more responsibly managed forests contributing to the protection of its biodiversity and the wellness of its local communities (FSC®N002281).
We also use FSC® certified paper made partially of bagasse in our product packaging. Bagasse, also known as sugarcane pulp is a non-wood fibrous material that is left behind after an extraction process. Regarding paper exports, we comply with the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
1 FSC®: The Forest Stewardship Council is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests.
We are implementing an effective logistics system that significantly reduces CO2 emissions, which contributes to a reduction in our environmental footprint through careful production planning and shifting as much as possible to sea transport.
For the fiscal year 2024, we achieved a 54% decrease in air transport. (Base year: 2023)

We are committed to sourcing several select raw materials such as Shiso leaf extract, Ashitaba leaf/stem extract, and Geranium thunbergii flower/leaf/stem extract from regenerative farms that do not use synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. The regenerative farming method provides traceability throughout the entire process, from soil preparation, cultivation, harvesting to extraction and helps reduce environmental impact by returning crop residue generated from the production process to the soil as natural compost.

Preserve, Nurture, Pass On
Our story cannot be told without the precious Koishimaru Silk and our bespoke skincare ritual, Saho. These are inspired by the Japanese traditions that have been preserved by our predecessors, such as living in harmony with nature, the culture of artisanal craftsmanship and the exceptional approach to hospitality. Our mission is to transmit these traditions to the next generation with integrity.
As part of our commitment to preserving and promoting Japanese cultural heritage, SENSAI proudly sponsors exhibitions showcasing silk textiles crafted by the artisans of Aya Town in Miyazaki Prefecture. The precious Koishimaru Silk, known for its delicate lustre and smooth texture, is brought to life through the skilled hands of artisans and has been passed down over generations. By supporting the preservation of traditional skills and exploring new possibilities for sustainable craftsmanship, SENSAI strives to impart these values into the future.
